If it took 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes, I don't think that extra time would enrich my life. And to be honest, I'm usually downloading more like 2-4GB at a time. My USB 2.0 reader caps out at about 25MB/s and takes 10 minutes to unload a full card. To be honest, while faster downloading is nice, I've never made it a priority to ensure the fastest speeds. Video cards are one thing that actually use the full PCIe bandwidth regularly, so I wouldn't want to mess if I didn't have to. They are really designed for unique or low profile designs where the card can't sit vertically. I think it is asking for trouble and you'll likely have issues lining up the slot with a case opening. I would not recommend using a slot extender for your video card. At any rate, you'll be beating the 50MB max of USB 2.0 by more than double. So it may not be an issue in the real world. However, you are unlikely to hit faster than that on any kind of memory card or card reader, even under the best of circumstances. So PCI will definitely bottleneck USB 3.0 to somewhere slightly less than 133MB/s. USB 3.0 has a max throughput of about 500MB/s I have seen these extender cables on Google ! Sometimes they are called PCI risers.ģ2 bit PCI typically has a max throughput of 133MB/s I was thinking of gettign a PCI E slot extender or an extender cable for the video card. But I also started reading that it is slower than the PCI E slots.
